"Prioritization" →
I attended Columbia College Chicago’s Fiction Department from 2001-2003. It was impossible not to become completely and heartily immersed in the unique methodology of writing taught here: image-driven, oral storytelling-based scene development, complete with word relays, scene recall, lucid dreaming.. all made possible by truly innovative and inspired faculty members. As an undergrad, I...

Ode to Elmer
Young Elmer’s tear ducts produced an excess of saline so that his eyes wept soggy drips of a milky, coagulated substance. His face was continually sticky due to this, and the fact that his lollipops always missed his mouth upon entry. His glimmering pale, pasty skin, caught in certain lights, became a rainbow montage of blues, browns, reds, and yellows. His horsey laugh, his beaver teeth,...

Survival, although important and among their main motives, is surpassed by whimsy as their primary...

Robert and Shana ParkeHarrison
I’ve often wondered who the artists were behind this fascinating body of work. Luckily, I stumbled across this enlightening video of the two artists describe their work in detail for a show at the Catherine Edelman gallery. Watch it here: http://www.edelmangallery.com/Artist_Talk/parkeharrisonshow2010/Parke_Harrison_all.htm

A+ Bee Story →
I would highly recommend many of the Pecha Kucha lectures, but this is particularly fascinating to me, as I’ve been interested in the ins and outs of beekeeping for a long time. I would like to try keeping bees in the city, though if I were a bee I might be happier in Brighton.

Plush Biochemies! →
One of my favorite new ideas, found on Kickstarter. If more kids played with magnetic molecules, I have no doubt we’d have more brilliant chemists growing up right now. More here: http://biochemies.com/dna/
